Kellogg Summer Internship Recap: Drew Cook ’14

Internship: Summer Finance and Business Development Associate at Revelry Brands, a Boulder-based VC fund focused on natural consumer products

Responsibilities: I assisted in strategy and operations of portfolio companies, primarily financial analysis and forecasting.

How I benefited from this experience: This was my first introduction to the startup world, and it was incredibly enlightening. The opportunities to make an impact with a small, growing company are limitless. Coming from larger companies, it has been really interesting to “think like an owner” in all scenarios.

Something I’ve learned at Kellogg that was applicable to this role: Exercising focus is vital for a startup to achieve lasting success. There will always be distractions that can lead the company in many directions, but staying on track requires saying “no” to a lot of opportunities that may appear to be attractive at the time .
