Two degrees, two networks, one incredible experience

For my partner, Drew, and me, the road to Northwestern had been a long and challenging one.

When Drew applied to Kellogg, we were serving as Peace Corps Volunteers in Benin, a small country in West Africa. We had been waiting for the acceptance call all day when Drew came to find me and told me we needed to talk.

My heart sank.

As I opened the door after him, I looked up and saw him holding a piece of paper that read, “We’re going to Northwestern!” We both immediately started jumping up and down, hugging and laughing – reactions I hope most have.

Drew was invited to pursue a JD-MBA, a dual-degree program at Kellogg and Northwestern Law. We could not wait to get to Chicago for the start of our new adventure.

The JV Chronicles: Making Kellogg My Own Adventure

I was ecstatic for my boyfriend when he was accepted to Kellogg, but I couldn’t help feeling a bit apprehensive about how my experience as a Joint Venture (partner of a student) would differ from his experience as a full-time student.

Besides the fact that I had never seen snow fall from the sky and didn’t yet understand the power of earmuffs, I was worried about how well I would fit in with the Kellogg community and whether or not I was in for two years of always feeling like a bit of an outsider. I foolishly assumed the experience was not mine to define, because this was his adventure and that I was just along for the ride.

Oh how wrong I was …

My experience as the wife of a Kellogg student

When my husband was accepted to Kellogg’s One-Year program, I was thrilled. I was especially pleased that he would be going to a school that would not only provide him with a world class MBA, but would also afford me plenty of new and exciting opportunities.

One reason my husband and I chose Kellogg was because of the strong partner network – the Joint Ventures Club (JVs).

The JV Experience: Evanston Life

So where do we live in America? It’s this cozy suburb of the metropolitan city of Chicago called—just Evanston. Snug away from the hustle bustle of the city, it’s a quiet town that houses Northwestern University. The Kellogg School of Management is located very close to downtown Evanston, and if you happen to live in… Continue reading

The JV Experience: Kellogg Culture

Since my very first Kellogg experience, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how nice everyone is to the Joint Ventures – or partners of the students. I’ve met many people willing to go out of their way to make us feel welcome and a part of the Kellogg community, including students, faculty and staff. During KWEST,… Continue reading
